Bone Marrow Drive on Sunday
« on: January 23, 2006, 03:45:57 PM »
No, they don't drill your bones.

There is a bone marrow donor registration drive on Sunday January 29th, 2006 from noon to 5:00 pm at 151 Highland St. [the Subway sub shop].

People from 18 to 60 can register.  The drive is being conducted by the CRIR.

The testing is by mouth swabs, and is covered by Massachusetts health insurance, so if you have insurance, please bring your card.  If you don't, you will still be tested;  the cost of typing will be covered by future donations.

The drive is one of many being organized by the friends and family of Emily Quinlan, who is being treated in Children's Hospital for leukemia.  People of all ethnicities are warmly invited.  As tissue type is inherited, we hope that people of Portuguese, Italian, Native American, Irish, and English descent will make a special effort to attend.

There is also a general need for more donors who identify themselves as Black/African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander, or Hispanic/Latino.

For more information on bone marrow donation, check out www.marrow.org

Please note:  the drive in Tyngsboro is on the 11th of February.
