Help needed! Goldsmith, Carl Mauritz Lindfors

(1/4) > >>

Vickypix:
Hello!

I first posted this question under "Former Residents" but since this new forum was launched I thought my question would fit better here.

I am searching for any information about a Goldsmith named Carl Mauritz Lindfors born 1849 in Sweden. He emigrated in 1887. In an old bible my family have it says he died in Worcester hospital in 1889, June 27th. I don't know anything about his stay in Worchester and I am wondering if there is any possibility to find out where and with whom he was staying or if there are any obituries available.  I am also wondering if anyone has information about the Worcester Hospital, what kind of patience did they have at this period? It is very hard for me to do research all the way from Sweden so any ideas or help would mean the world to me!

Victoria, many swedes went to Worcester, Mass.  I am the great grandaughter of Johan  & Emilia (perrson) Nordstrom from Norra Skravinge in Malmohus.  I would encourage you to leave a message on the SARA website (Swedish Ancestral Reseach Association) which is based in Worcester.  You may also go to www.worcpublib.org the library in worcester and try to get some help from the genealogy reference desk.  I am going to the library today and will see what I can find.   Your english is very good.  Best of luck with your search.

Went to the library yesterday and looked up the death.  He was age 40 years 3 months 9days old, married, died of tuberculosis (there was something else there I didn't understand)   He was the son of Carl M. and Josephine M. Gronbeck

I couldn't find his obituary in either the Evening Post, Skandivavika or the Worcester Telegram.  He was not listed in the street directories that I could find.  There were some people named lindfors in worcester...Gustave T. (Engraver) house 13 Pearl....Eric M. 16 Union Ave (machinist) somehow related to Gustave as they lived in the same house a few years earlier...Per V. (machinist) house 14 Endicott Street

I suggest you contact the swedish cemetery in worcester  called Hope Cemetery.  They have burial cards and may be able to help you.  The swedesish cemetery also sometimes pasted the obituary on the back of the burial card.  If I can, I'll try to hunt this down.

He was in the U.S. such a short time that I'm not really surprised to not find him anywhere...did you go on the SARA site?

Hello!

Thank you sooo much for trying to help me!...And you found some interesting things that I didn't know about. I didn't know Car Mauritz died of Tuberculosis. It is quite interesting, because when I did some research in our Swedish archives, I get the impression that he actually ran away to America. I don't think his wife and children really knew where he went, because in the Swedish records it says his whereabouts is Unknown. Later on in 1903 Carls wife Anna Sofia Lindfors (Maidenname) Westberg  born 1843 and her daughter Olga Sofia Lindfors also emigrated to America. They stated they were going to Lorain, Ohio to Anna Sofias son John Lindfors. However, I have never been able to track what happend to them. John Lindfors family I have actually found and I am in contact with a son of him. He, however, doesn't know anything about this family. And he in his late years and I don't want to try and pressure him into doing work.

All the other three Lindfors are brothers to Carl Mauritz. Both Per Victor and Erick Magnus later moved to Colorado. And from what i have found Gustav Theodor was quite an artist, an engraver that made beautiful work, stayed in Worcester. Gustaf first arrived in April of 1886 and from what I believe he stayed on in Worcester til his death. He had a wife name Ida. I don't know when he or his wife passed away though. Gustaf was born in Hanebo, Hälsingland in November23d.1864. If you have the time, can you help me try and find some more info on Gustaf as well I know it is a lot to ask, but I am very very interested...and it is so hard doing genealogy with out any contact in the actual place you are looking. If you need some help with your Nordström family I can try and find information for you as well. I have quite good contacts and I also have good access to archives and library's.  I will be happy to help you back!

Of course I will also try the things you suggested in your post!

Thank you again, and I try my best in writing English. Most people in Sweden learn to speek English quite good. We start learning in the third grade.

Victoria, I called All Faiths Cemetery (Old Swedish Cemetery) and they are very friendly and helpful.  They asked me to wait until after Memorial Day to come in and they'll help me find graves etc.  Memorial Day in America is a very important and busy time in cemeteries...we decorate the graves of soldiers and it has even expanded to  remembering all of the dead.  Will you send me your mailing address via my email so I can send you things.   Found Gustaf Lindfors and his wife Ida and their children living in worcester then holden then back in worcester in the different censuses.  There are even Lindforses in the telephone book!  There are only a few.  This name looks pretty uncommon in this area.   I can try to call one of the people on your behalf or I can send you their address so that you can write to them....
