Title: 1890 Veteran's Census
Post by: merski on March 29, 2006, 04:02:48 PM
Just used a new resource today.  One of the things that survived the fire that destroyed most of the 1890 Federal census was the Census of Veterans (Civil War) from states K-Z.  I found the microfilm at the Worcester Public Library and eventually located the roll for Worcester County.  I just read through the entire Worcester City listings to find the person I was looking for.  It tells Regiment and State and muster in and out dates.  There are special notes for some of these veterans and veterans widows.  For example, my vet had received a shot to the forehead (ouch!).  With that info I could go on the internet to do further research into the regiment's history.  Check this out if you have a civil war vet in your family.
