Mahoney and Buckley
« on: April 11, 2011, 06:21:09 PM »
Hello.

I'm looking for help in finding out when my Mahoney and Buckley ancestors arrived in America, and where they were from in Ireland.  I believe the following Mahoney's came to the U.S. together between the years 1845 and 1850:

Thomas Mahoney (b. abt. 1790 Ireland), his wife Anastasia Swift? (b. abt 1796 Ireland)

Their children:

Thomas (b. abt 1820 Ireland)

John (b. abt 1824 Ireland), his wife Mary ?  (b. abt 1827 Ireland)

Their child:

Mary Ann (b abt 1845 Ireland)

The Mahoney family were living in Blackstone at the time of the 1850 census, and Uxbridge at the time of the 1860 census.  By 1865, they're living in Worcester, with the exception of Thomas Jr.  I don't know what happened to him.  They remain in Worcester from that time on.

John and Mary Mahoney had 6 children that I know of:

Mary Ann who I've mentioned already (b 1845 Ireland)
Dennis J. (born 1850 Blackstone)
Anastasia (born 1853 Blackstone)
Catherine (born 1855 Uxbridge)
Margaret (born 1857 Uxbridge)
Thomas (born 1860 Uxbridge)

I am descended from Dennis and his wife Annie Buckley.

Now for the Buckley ancestors.   I believe the following Buckley's came to the U.S. together between the years 1849 and 1855:

John Buckley (b. abt 1810 Ireland), his wife Mary Harris? (b. abt. 1811)

a daughter Bridget (b. abt. 1837 Ireland)
a son Jeremiah (b. abt. 1840 Ireland)
a daughter Mary (b. abt. 1842 Ireland)
a daughter Joanna (b. abt 1847 England)

They settled in Upton.

I am descended from Jeremiah Buckley and his wife Mary ?

They had six children:

Ellen (b. abt. 1860 Upton)
Anne Marie (b. 1861 Upton)
Timothy (b. abt 1863 Upton)
Julia (b. abt. 1867 Worcester)
Jeremiah (b. abt. 1869 Worcester)
Mary (b. abt. 1870 probably Worcester)

Anne Marie or Annie married Dennis Mahoney in Worcester in 1882.

Thanks!

Michelle Mansfield

On Dennis Mahoney's marriage record, it says he was from Waterford son of John & Mary

Yes, that's an interesting story.  In census records, Dennis was always listed as having been born in Massachusetts, but then the marriage certificate says he was born in Waterford, which I assumed meant Waterford County, Ireland.  After a little research I found out that there used to be a village called Waterford in Massachusetts which was part of what is now Blackstone.
