Title: Temperance Societies
Post by: bvirish on October 26, 2006, 02:19:02 PM
Does anyone know if there are any surviving records from the Worcester Irish Temperance Societies (St. John's Temperance and Literary Guild, Father Mathew's Total Abstinence Society, etc.) If so, where would they reside? With the diocese, the Parishes, or elsewhere?

I am looking for membership lists from the 1880s to the 1930s.

Thank you.....

Check http://www.holycross.edu/ for press release about Dr. Timothy Meagher's lecture on Assimilation (Which the Borg would have is futile.) Thur. Nov. 2, 2006. He would be the expert on the social clubs, societies, etc. He is in town for the Blackstone Canal symposium. Anyone else going to that?          J

Thank you.

I don't think I can make the November 2 lecture. However, I will be at the Canal Symposium.
Hopefully I can query Dr. Meagher then.

I will see you next weekend?

Can you post details of this symposium for those of us who don't get the Telegram?  Thanks

I'm hoping to get to go on Friday, if I can get the time off from work.  I'd love to meet any of the Worcester Irish group that may be coming.  My name is Mary Ellen R.  I'm 5'2'' with short cut frosted hair and rimless glasses.  I already know and greatly respect the work of morcmik aka J.
